Helen Mae Kollman
Helen Mae Kollman went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, in Floresville, Texas, at the blessed age of 94. She was born on May 28, 1919, in San Antonio to Arch and Anne Huebner and was the middle child of three.
She married Amos Kollman on May 28, 1964. Helen lived a long and full life enjoying every moment to the fullest. She was an active member of the Floresville First Baptist Church and was known for her vivacious personality and colorful, dramatic ensembles. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were truly her joy, though the great outdoors fell shortly behind. She was passionate about gardening, hunting, and fishing, proudly killing her last buck in her mid-’80s.
She was a diehard Dallas Cowboys, Floresville Tigers, and San Antonio Spurs fan. When not busy outdoors, she enjoyed embroidery, quilting, and oil painting. Helen was active in a bowling league into her late 70s and loved to sit down for a good game of dominoes. If you were lucky, you might have even had the chance to catch her dancing to a little polka music or old-time classic country music. Even when her legs grew older and weak, she was still seen shimmying to music up and down the halls of the Floresville Nursing and Rehab Center with her walker. As she grew older in age, her spirit never faded, and she continued to build the legacy that she has left for all of those that survive her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Amos Kollman; her parents; her brother, Barney Huebner; her sister, Verna Davis; and her daughter-in-law, Linda Metting.
Helen is survived by her children, Barbara Ann Herndon and husband Robert and Robert Carl Metting, all of Floresville; her grandchildren, Jennifer Varnon and husband Billy, Gearis Herndon and wife Judy, Clint Metting, and Rebekah Street and husband Matthew, all of Floresville, and Carla Smith and husband James of Vidalia, La.; and her great-grandchildren, Christopher Varnon, Carter Herndon, Cameron Herndon, Madeline Street, Kollman Street, and Ryan Street, all of Floresville, Ashley Aleman and husband Jaime of San Antonio, and Alexander Smith and Nicholas Smith of Vidalia, La.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, Oct. 16, from 5-7 p.m. in the First Baptist Church in Floresville.
A funeral service was held on Thursday at 10 a.m. in the church, officiated by Pastor Mike Clements.
Interment followed in the Floresville City Cemetery in Floresville.
Serving as pallbearers were Weldon Riggs, J.B. Dismuke, Carl Ray, Joe Holcombe, Otto Hierholzer, Amos Garcia, Andy Eubanks, and Wade Brannan.
