Floresville ISD honors Raabe
Longtime Floresville Independent School District board member John Raabe (center) accepts recognition Oct. 15 for his 11 years of service from interim Superintendent Sherri Bays (from left) and fellow board members Rachel Peña, Neysa Choate, and Ryan Bippert. Raabe, whose term ends in November, chose not to seek reelection.
FLORESVILLE -- The transition continues for the Floresville Independent School District board of trustees. At its Oct. 15 meeting, the board recognized longtime member John Raabe, whose term will end in November.
Raabe, who chose not to seek reelection, has served on the board for 11 years, said Superintendent’s Secretary Kim Cathey following the meeting. He represented single-member District 6. His successor, who filed to run unopposed, will be Steve Ibrom.
Also during the meeting, the board voted to approve the purchase of cafeteria equipment. Cathey said three steamers -- two for Floresville High School, one for the Floresville South Elementary School -- were purchased at a total cost of $52,804.10. The purchase was necessary, as the increasing age of the former units resulted in repairs becoming expensive, with parts increasingly difficult to find. While the high school’s current cafeteria was completed in 2009, the steamers were carryovers from the school’s former cafeteria, Cathey said.
In other business, the board approved the following resignations:
•Patty Silva, LVN, Floresville South Elementary School
•Yolanda Zamora, teacher, Floresville South Elementary School
•Diana Buchanan, teacher, Floresville Middle School.
