Accused carjacker heads for trial
Jury selection in the trial of 30-year-old Jordan Robert Lewis of San Antonio remains set for Nov. 12, following his Oct. 23 appearance for a pretrial conference in Wilson County District Court. He is charged with aggravated robbery, attempted aggravated kidnapping, escape, evading arrest or detention with a vehicle, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle in connection with a March 3, 2012, incident that began at the Wilson County Jail.
Court records indicate that Lewis also will answer an unrelated charge of burglary of a habitation on that date. He was scheduled to appear in court for a docket call Oct. 29.
Also in court Oct. 23 was 20-year-old Marcos Garza of Floresville, who was convicted July 29 of intoxication assault with a vehicle and sentenced to 10 years’ probation. Court records indicate that Garza, who has completed his court-ordered stint in a Texas Department of Criminal Justice boot camp, now will go into a Substance Abuse Felony Punishment -- often referred to as “SAF-P” -- facility.
According to a Texas Department of Criminal Justice website, SAF-P provides treatment options for certain offenders who are convicted of substance abuse-related crimes. A six-month in-prison treatment program is followed by up to three months of residential aftercare in a transitional treatment center, six to nine months of outpatient aftercare, and up to 12 months of support groups and follow-up supervision.
