Polished Edge: Rebel Wilson of ‘Super Fun Night’ on ABC
Q: Do you use your legal background?
A: I read my own contracts. Because I have a law degree, I can never claim ignorance.
Q: How is American TV different from Australian?
A: This is a whole different level. This is 22 episodes a season. In Australia, “Bogan Pride” was six episodes a season.
Q: Besides starring in “Super Fun Night,” what else are you doing?
A: I break all the stories with the writers.
Q: What did you want to be when you were a kid?
A: My first career choice was I was going to be an actuary because I was very good at math. I never thought someone like me who came from the western side of Sydney -- in acting school, and worked at the cinema watching movies -- I never thought I would be in them.
Q: How did it come about?
A: I quickly learned no one was going to hire me as an actress. I realized I had to create my own careers. The only thing I could do was to write a play. I used $2,000 of my own money and did “The Westie Monologues.” I wrote it in two nights. I must have had it inside me. It was an 18-minute one-act play.
Q: What did that lead to?
A: A director came to see it and cast me in a TV show.
Q: And here you are in Beverly Hills. Does it feel surreal?
A: It does. I could feel in my heart that I was going to be successful.
