1918-2013

Lucille Bolf Hegar, 95, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013. She was born July 28, 1918, to Frank and Ellie Neubauer Bolf in Floresville, Texas.

Her parents and maternal grandparents, Paul and Ulrika Beck Neubauer, were German and Czech settlers in Wilson County. She was educated at Floresville High School, the University of Texas, and the Worden School of Social Work. Lucille married Capt. Joseph A. Hegar of Temple in 1945 and had one daughter, Rebecca. Joseph retired from the U.S. Army in 1968 after tours in Georgia, Korea, Japan, New Jersey, Virginia, Germany, and San Antonio.

Lucille spent much of her life serving communities of South Texas as teacher, school lunch supervisor, rural recreation organizer, Girl Scout professional, child welfare social worker, and a Red Cross staffer and volunteer. She worked for the Red Cross in the San Francisco earthquake of 1989, a major Puerto Rican hurricane, and many Texas disasters. She served several years on the Board of Lutheran Social Services of the South. Lucille also was known for her bread, jams, quilts, parties, hospitality, laughter, and travels. She was a member of Advent Lutheran Church in Arlington from 2006-13, Shepherd King Church in San Antonio from 1964-2006, the SPJST, and UT Texas Exes.

Lucille was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Joseph; and brothers Richard Bolf and Frank Bolf of Wilson County.

She is survived by daughter Dr. Rebecca Hegar; beloved granddaughter Anna Natasha; great-grandchild Emmy Nichole of Arlington; and a loving extended family.

A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 23, at 1 p.m. in the Shepherd King Lutheran Church in San Antonio.

Interment will be held on Sunday at noon in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Austin.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Joseph, Lucille, and Rebecca Hegar Scholarship Fund at the School of Social Work, Box 19129, UTA, Arlington, TX 76019-0129 or to Lutheran Social Services (LSSS Agency Advancement), P.O. Box 140767, Austin, TX 78714-0767.
