Anona Pauli Vorpahl entered into heaven on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, just shy of her 100th birthday. She was born on Nov. 23, 1913, to William and Meta (Thiel) Pauli.

She was a beautiful, elegant lady who was always optimistic and had a sweetness and charm that touched everyone who knew her. She was generous, loving, and kind and always had so much love to give. She lived many happy years in her home in La Vernia. She was a devoted wife and mother and will be dearly missed by all. Her cooking skills were legendary and she was an accomplished seamstress. Her hobbies included intricate needlework, gardening, and spending time with family. She was a member of the La Vernia United Methodist Church and several social organizations, which included the United Methodist Church Women’s Group, Garden Club, and the Sewing group for many years. After 99 wonderful years on this earth, God called you to come home. He placed you in his loving arms and whispered, “It is time to come with me.” A golden heart stopped beating. Thank you, God, for giving us so many precious moments and memories with the best mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother that anyone could hope for. Until we are together again, all our love forever, said her loving family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Julia Pauli; brother Charles Pauli Sr.; and her beloved husband, Alvin Vorpahl.

Anona is survived by her daughter, Patricia Vorpahl-Kothlow of San Antonio; two granddaughters, Nona Barrick and husband Kelly of San Antonio and Lisa Rutherford and husband Greg of Houston; four great-grandchildren, Nick Rutherford, Konner Barrick, Brooke Rutherford, and Chase Rutherford; one brother-in-law, Weldon Vorpahl of Las Vegas; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Visitation was held on Saturday, Nov. 2, at 10 a.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in La Vernia, Texas.

A funeral service was held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral chapel, officiated by the Rev. Steve Purdy and Pastor Stephen Curry.

Interment followed in the Post Oak Cemetery in Seguin.

Memorial contributions may be made to the La Vernia United Methodist Church, 220 Bluebonnet St., La Vernia, TX 78121.
