Offer condolences


Zadie H. Long, 99, of La Vernia, Texas, passed away on Monday, Oct. 28, 2013. She was born on Oct. 27, 1914, in Fort Worth to Levi and Emma (Choate) Wells.

Zadie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed by many. She was a “granny” to all that she met and a true Christian. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Country Care Manor for their care and support.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband James Emmett Long; four sisters; and one brother.

Zadie is survived by her daughters, Patsy Ruth Barry, Shirley Gene Gribble, Donna Ann Shaw and husband Maurice, and Karen Rackler-Ross and husband Dennis Ross; 19 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; a niece; and many loving friends.

Visitation was held on Thursday, Oct. 31, from 5-8 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in La Vernia.

A funeral service was held on Friday at 10 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of La Vernia officiated by Pastor David L. Gale.

Interment followed in the Concrete Cemetery in La Vernia.
