Police say Floresville man attacked victim on basketball court
A 26-year-old Floresville man is being held in the Wilson County Jail on a total of $16,000 bond after his Nov. 2 arrest, according to jail records, following his magistrate hearing before Wilson County Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Johnny Tejada Villarreal.
Nicholas Moreno is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury and possession of more than 1 gram but less than 4 grams of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 1. He was arrested during a traffic stop conducted by Floresville Patrolman Matthew Redd and Sgt. Devin Keen, who reported finding 1.3 grams of methamphetamine during a probable cause search of Moreno’s vehicle.
The assault charge stems from an incident on the basketball court in Legion Park on Fifth Street in Floresville, which occurred at approximately 7:45 p.m. Oct. 31. Police report that Moreno allegedly approached a 23-year-old male and punched him twice in the face, causing the victim to fall backward and strike his head on the basketball court, which fractured his skull.
The victim was transported to the San Antonio Military Medical Center, where a hospital spokesman said Nov. 4 that he was treated and released Nov. 1.
Other recent arrests by the Floresville Police Department include:
•Tylor Carroll, 31, of Olathe, Kan., Oct. 29 at 12:18 a.m. during a traffic stop on S.H. 97, on an outstanding arrest warrant from Johnson County, Kan. He is charged with violating his probation related to a 2012 conviction on charges of aggravated endangering of a child and electronic solicitation of a child younger than 16. He was extradited back to Kansas Nov. 2.
•Daniel Herrera, 30, of San Antonio, Oct. 27, charged with two counts of possession of less than 1 gram of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 1 -- heroin and methadone -- one count of possession of less than 28 grams of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 3, and criminal trespass, after witnesses said he removed an air conditioner unit from a home on Wildrose Drive before entering the home. Herrera was released from the Wilson County Jail after posting a total of $24,000 bond.
•Elizabeth Love Rainey, 35, of Corpus Christi, Oct. 30, charged with possession of less than 1 gram of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 1 -- heroin --and possession of less than 2 ounces of marijuana. She was released from the Wilson County Jail after posting a total of $9,500 bond.
•Manuelita Moreno, 62, of Floresville, Nov. 1, charged with possession of more than 4 grams but less than 200 grams of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 1 during a traffic stop at 10:35 a.m. on Fourth Street.
