1921-2013

Robert Harold Lynn Sr., 92, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013. He was born March 3, 1921, in the Nockenut community in Wilson County, Texas, to Thomas Edgar and Jerlie Duke Lynn.

Harold was married to Alma Lucille Wiley on Dec. 7, 1946, in Seguin. They purchased land in Stockdale shortly after their marriage and made their home. To this union two children were born, Robert Harold “Bobby” and Alene. Harold was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt in his younger years, but later had his deer feeder outside his bedroom window so he could watch the deer. He taught many young men how to hunt and enjoy the gift of nature. Harold never met a stranger and will be remembered as a kind and compassionate man to all who knew him. He had the ability to talk to and befriend everyone he met. He always had time for a game of dominoes and played his last game with his dear friend and Saturday morning breakfast partner, Tom Jones. He had many quips his friends will remember, such as a favorite, “Your kindness shall never be forgotten.” His ready smile endeared him to all he met. He lived a full life caring for and serving others. He dearly loved his time spent with family and friends. Some of his dearest friendships were made during his 40-plus years working for Wilson County as a heavy equipment operator, a job he loved. After Harold’s retirement, he spent many hours volunteering at the Stockdale Nursing Center. His family gratefully appreciates the loving care he received as a resident.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister Bobbie Jean; brothers Marcus, Rex, Roy, and Clayton Lynn; sisters Lois Knetsch, Evelyn Bearden, and Annie Lou Hammond; his wife of 65 years, Lucille; and his beloved son, Bobby.

He is survived by his daughter, Alene Quinney and husband Marvin; daughter-in-law Elizabeth Lynn; grandchildren John Robert Lynn and wife Carrie, Loretta Lynn Orr and husband Michael, Roy Lynn and wife Lacy, Pat Quinney, and Lexi Quinney; and great-grandchildren Randy Lynn, Jillian, Joy, Joshua, and Jaycee Orr, Wyatt and Coltyn Lynn, and Brayden Dillingham.

Visitation was held on Monday, Nov. 11, from 6-8 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in Stockdale.

A funeral service was held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Stockdale Bilingual Church of Christ in Stockdale, with Minister Tom Jones officiating.

A committal service was conducted at Nockenut Cemetery in Wilson County.

Serving as pallbearers were Mark Lynn, Mike Lynn, Larry Rader, John Travis Dixon, Seth Rutland, and Stephen Rutland.

Serving as honorary pallbearers were Maurice Dixon, Robert Quinney, and members of the Masonic Lodge.

Memorial contributions may be made to Stockdale Ex-Student Association, Harold Lynn Scholarship Fund, Attn: Roxanne Seidel, P.O. Box 7, Stockdale, TX 78160.
