County proposal wins by 11 votes
This is a sample of the ballot for both Wilson County’s certificates of obligation election and for the constitutional amendments election. Voters have raised concerns over its format after more than 11 percent of voters did not weigh in on the county’s proposed certificates of obligation.

Wilson County voters, despite a low turnout for the Nov. 5 election, have narrowly approved the issuance of $8.5 million in certificates of obligation to fund projects including the renovation and stabilization of the historic Wilson County Courthouse in Floresville.

The unofficial tally, until votes are canvassed Nov. 13, was 1,243 for and 1,232 against -- a difference of 11 votes.

However, despite 2,475 voters weighing in on the proposition, the Wilson County Elections Office reports that a total of 2,783 voters participated in the election. This means that 308 voters -- more than 11.06 percent -- left that portion of the ballot blank.

Carter Thomas of Texans for Constitutional Government believes that the design of the ballot could have caused voters to simply miss the proposition altogether. Box-by-box totals provided by the county’s elections office indicate that each of the nine constitutional amendment propositions -- all of which passed on both the county w)

Looks like we are going to leave our legacy (a huge debt) to the future taxpayers of Wilson County. Congrats for looking out on the future of our children.
