Now in its 13th year, the H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards is excited to introduce an additional category recognizing outstanding public school boards, a new chapter in the program’s history of rewarding teachers, principals, school districts, and early childhood facilities for innovation, creativity, and passion for serving the children of Texas.

If you know of an educator, school district, early childhood facility, or board of trustees that deserves recognition for making a difference in the lives of their students and in their community, submit the name today for a 2014 H-E-B Excellence in Education Award. Nominations for the awards are being accepted online at through Friday, Dec. 6.

Nominees will be sent an invitation to complete an online application to be used for judging purposes. The application asks nominees to provide written responses about education philosophy, learning experiences, and insights on issues facing educators in Texas. The deadline for applications is Jan. 13, 2014.

Nominees have the opportunity to win cash prizes ranging from $5,000 to $100,000. In the new category, five public school boards will be selected as finalists. If a statewide winner is selected, the board will be awarded a $25,000 grant to be spent on initiatives for the district they serve.

Nominations are not required for participation. Educators, school districts, and early childhood facilities can go to and complete an application.
