POTH -- It has been a difficult season for the Poth Pirette volleyball team. Between injuries and filling a few gaps from last season, the Pirettes entered the playoffs with a losing record. That certainly isn’t the norm for Poth, but Head Coach Patti Zenner and the Pirettes know that their record doesn’t mean anything at this point. It’s all about winning out from here, and the Pirettes appear to be on the right track.

After finishing the district season in a first-place tie with Schulenburg, the Pirettes flipped a coin and entered the postseason as the No. 2 seed from the district. That didn’t slow Poth down very much, though, and the Pirettes picked up a close victory over Lago Vista, 25-23, 26-24, 25-10.

Senior Devon Dylla had another great match for Poth, as she led the team with 13 kills. Alyssa Kallies added six kills to the mix, and Shelby Yanta tossed down another five. Alyssa Kruse and Amanda Wauters combined for 29 assists, and Yanta and Kallies led the defensive effort with 9 digs and 8 digs, respectively.

With the bi-district victory under its belt, Poth advanced to the area championship and took on Van Vleck. Poth actually had an easier time during this match, picking up a healthy 25-16 win in the first game, and then cruising to a pair of relatively easy 25-11 wins. The victory pulled the Pirettes out of the red, and sent them straight into the regional quarterfinals once more.

Poth was scheduled to face Comfort Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. The game was scheduled to be played at Alamo Heights High School, with the winner advancing to the Region IV tournament. Results were unavailable as of press time, but will be updated online at www.wilsoncountynews.com.
