Corbin entertains EC FFA members for ‘Year of the Farmer’
East Central FFA officers join the musician after a special Easton Corbin Quiz.
By Kylie Patterson
SAN ANTONIO -- Country music singer Easton Corbin entertained East Central FFA members for the “Year of the Farmer Tour” sponsored by Dodge Ram. Corbin met with members from East Central FFA, the Somerset FFA, the Highlands FFA and the Clemens FFA Oct. 25 to talk about the importance that agriculture plays in the lives of Americans.
He involved the audience in his presentation, including East Central FFA President Tommy Fletcher in his introduction. Kylie Patterson recited the FFA Creed, and another senior group of FFA officers -- Ciarra Gawlik, Stephanie Geistweidt, and Jordan Hevner -- took a special Easton Corbin Quiz. Behind the scenes, Johnna Pieniazek was helping the media make connects with Easton Corbin himself.
A concert of Corbin’s music and some other superstars proceeded for about 45 minutes, with a message that rang out loud and clear: The American farmer is the backbone of this country and there is a place for you in agriculture. The private event was sponsored by Dodge Ram as part of their “‘Year of the Farmer” presentation that began in February with the Super Bowl commercial by Paul Harvey. Dodge pledged up to $1 million to the national FFA; for every hit on their online commercial, Dodge would give $1.
However, the commercial by Dodge Ram sparked more than a fund-raising opportunity for the FFA; it began to build a sense of pride in a vocation that will be needed to feed and clothe our exploding population. It is expected that by the year 2050 our world population will be more than 9 billion people. This group will require our world farmers to increase their production by 100 percent. This is simply a daunting task.
Before leaving to go back on tour, Corbin signed a Gibson guitar that the East Central FFA members will use for a fund-raiser, with proceeds to support East Central FFA members at their local county livestock show.
