Letter: Flyover thank-you
The flyover by the Commemorative Air Force pilots during the Floresville ISD [Independent School District] Veterans Day ceremony at Eschenburg Field on Nov. 11 was fabulous!
The excitement of the children in the bleachers and their squeals of delight as the vintage aircraft roared overhead were priceless. No doubt, there will be sketches of airplanes and flags in the margins of notebooks and homework papers for the next few weeks as the children recall the wonderful displays they experienced on Monday. The smiles, nods of appreciation, and “thumbs-up” of the older veterans being honored brought tears of joy and respect to many of us watching them.
The entire ceremony was well-organized and
-executed. The patriotic music played by the FHS [Floresville High School] Mighty Tiger Band, the combined choirs and soloists, guest speakers, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, the FHS Sabertooth ROTC cadets in full dress uniforms, the Technology Class students recording and running the sound equipment, the National Honor Society students in their Sunday best serving as escorts for the visiting veterans from local nursing homes, as well as family and community members who attended to honor our veterans ... it all just made me so proud of this school district and their commitment to honor those who have served and are serving in the armed forces.
These men and women made possible, and continue to make possible, the freedoms we enjoy as citizens of the United States of America. If anyone missed it this year, please plan to attend next year.
We and our students are so incredibly fortunate and blessed to live here.
Many special thanks to the 55 individuals, businesses, and organizations who chose to donate money for the flyover on Veterans Day. Thanks also to the teachers, staff, students, and board members at FISD that planned and presented the fantastic ceremony.

Wilson County Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace
