Immanuel Lutheran Church is now hiring for a Youth and Family Ministry Director. Pastoral: Minister to youth and their families during Sunday School and other church programs, being present in their lives outside the church walls, available for common concerns and in crisis situations. Leadership: Recruit and nurture Youth and Family Ministry program. Administration : Manage the planning process and coordinate with Pastor and Youth Committee all regular ministries to youth and their families. This includes youth of all ages on Sunday mornings and mid-week events; assisting with Confirmation, special events, trips and retreats, and parent meetings. Stewardship: Ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of youth programs, manage youth ministry budget, and collaborate with the sponsors of each Youth group. Ability to build, lead, and empower youth. Ability to implement a ministry vision. Familiarity with Lutheran Doctrine required; must be comfortable teaching it and representing Lutheran Theology. Proficient computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database, email, internet, and social media. Supervisory experience preferred. Ability to adapt and evaluate curriculum preferred. Must have excellent organization, communication (verbal and written), and listening skills, with a high degree of initiative and accountability. Exceptional interpersonal and relational skills required, with sensitivity to church members and visitors. Understanding and enjoyment of youth and families and guiding their spiritual development. Lorene O. Martin passed away Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, at the age of 79. She was born Sept. 22, 1934, to Olga (Filip) and Ignac Peterek Jr.

Lorene loved to work for the PTA and served as a former president. She also was the president of the Altar Society at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Lorene was in charge of organizing reception meals after funerals at St. Mary’s Catholic Church for several years.

Lorene was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Billie Dee Martin; children Mary Jane Benavides and husband Michael, David William Martin, Kenneth James Martin, and John Thomas Martin and wife Jennifer; grandchildren Travis Ryan Benavides and Xavier Anthony Heerssen Martin; siblings Evelyn Moeller and husband Edmund, Alvin Peterek and wife Doris, Doris Miles, and Laurie Janek and husband Dennis; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Visitation was held on Thursday, Nov. 14, from 5-8 p.m., with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in Stockdale, Texas.

A funeral Mass was held on Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Stockdale, officiated by the Rev. Dennis Jarzombek.

Interment followed in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Stockdale.

Memorial donations may be made to the St. Mary’s Catholic Church Building Fund or the Stockdale EMS.
