Jail escapee pleads guilty
The fate of 30-year-old Jordan Robert Lewis now will rest with Judge Donna Rayes of the 81st Judicial District, after he pled guilty Nov. 12 to three charges related to his 2012 escape from the Wilson County Jail. Lewis is scheduled for sentencing Jan. 6, 2014.
Assistant District Attorney Audrey Louis of the 81st Judicial District said that prior to a jury being selected to hear Lewis’ case, he entered pleas of guilty to evading arrest or detention with a motor vehicle, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and escape. The charges, in addition to a charge of attempted aggravated kidnapping, stem from a March 3, 2012, incident in which Lewis -- a former participant in the jail’s trusty program -- fled the Wilson County Criminal Justice Center on U.S. 181 in Floresville before stealing a vehicle from the nearby Casa Solana convenience store and Shell gas station on Standish Street.
Lewis led law-enforcement officials on a chase that ended on I-37 in Atascosa County after he crashed the stolen vehicle into a guardrail. As the vehicle caught fire, troopers from the Texas Department of Public Safety apprehended the fugitive at gunpoint.
In addition to the attempted aggravated kidnapping charge, Lewis and an accomplice also stand accused of the Nov. 7, 2011, burglary of a home and a building on Eagle Ridge Drive north of Floresville.
