Bleachers come down for track project begins
STOCKDALE -- Bleachers have come down as the Stockdale Independent School District (ISD) begins work on its new track complex.
The track complex, the second project in the district’s 2010 long-term plan, is in its infancy.
According to Superin-tendent Paul Darilek after the Nov. 11 school board meeting, Hellas Construction has been hired for the track upgrade, which includes construction of stadium bleachers and a press box.
Darilek clarified that the Stockdale Chamber of Commerce has made an agreement with Hellas Construction for the relocation of the bleachers to the rodeo grounds. The chamber made its own arrangements with the construction company for the bleachers to be removed, he said. Darilek said the school district’s contract is for demolition only.
Also during the meeting, the trustees amended the 2013-14 budget. Darilek said the district could receive approximately $150,000 from the Foundation School Program.
According to the Texas Education Agency website, a school district is eligible to receive funding for each full-time student in average daily attendance in a Career and Technology Education (or vocational education) program. Other credits include enrollment in certain advanced Career and Technology Education courses or programs. A Texas Education Agency committee is responsible for reviewing the data collections.
Darilek said this is welcome revenue for the district.
The trustees designated the money for the following areas: update servers in the career and technology area, drug testing, and travel costs. Due to a recent fire inspection visit, this funding also will assist the district to become compliant with the city’s fire ordinance.
