Help Wanted

The City of Poth is currently accepting applications for the position of Chief of Police. The Chief is responsible for all operational and administrative aspects of the police department, provide patrol, criminal investigations, crime prevention, enforce all laws and ordinances and be responsible for public health and safety. Must be community oriented, have strong public relations skills, strong work ethics, must be physically fit and maintain a professional image while in uniform. A High School Diploma or GED is required. Must have a valid Class C or higher Texas Driverís License. Must be TCLEOSE Master Peace Officer certified and have at least 5 years of experience with law enforcement agency; SWAT, Gang Unit, Narcotics or Detective experience a plus, pass a thorough background check investigation with drug screen and credit check. The City offers benefit package with retirement plan and medical insurance. Salary dependent on qualifications. EOE. Doug and Bev Smolka of Adkins, Texas, are proud to announce the engagement and upcoming marriage of their daughter, Lacey, to Travis Beck, the son of Don and Bonnie Beck of La Vernia.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Florence Smolka and the late Raymond Smolka and the late William and Barbara Buck.

The prospective groom is the grandson of Fay Doiron and the late Melvin Doiron, the late Wesley Beck, and the late Alva Mae Stribling.

Lacey, a 2006 graduate of La Vernia High School, is a 2008 graduate of Palo Alto College and will graduate in December 2013 from Galen College of Nursing with her R.N. Lacey is employed with Country Care Manor.

Travis, a 2003 graduate of La Vernia High School, is a 2008 graduate of Texas A&M University-Kingsville with a degree in criminology. Travis is employed with the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office.

Lacey and Travis are planning an April 2014 wedding in the Town East Baptist Church in San Antonio, Texas. The couple will make their home in La Vernia.
