Community Thanksgiving, Discernment event Nov. 24
The Stockdale Ministerial Alliance and the members of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Denhawken invite you and your family and friends to participate in a special experience of National Thanksgiving that will make our National Observance of Thanksgiving this year especially meaningful and memorable. It will be a unique Wilson County Community Thanksgiving and Discernment event that will occur this coming Sunday evening, Nov. 24, beginning at 6 p.m. in St. John’s Lutheran Church in Denhawken, located off S.H. 119, 5 miles southeast of Stockdale.
A special liturgy of Community and National Thanksgiving and Discernment will be used, written by Norm Beck, the pastor of the St. John’s Lutheran Church congregation and the Poehlmann Professor of Theology and Classical Languages at Texas Lutheran University. It will be inclusive of all Americans and of all people in this Wilson County area and not just those who may be participating in ecclesial (church) activities.
All people in the area are invited, with a special invitation to the elected and appointed government officials in Wilson County. It will include an emphasis on thanksgiving for the separation of “church and state” guaranteed by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
It will be an opportunity to share monetary offerings to be used by the Stockdale Ministerial Alliance to help people during the coming year and physical offerings of food and new and nearly new clean clothing items, especially children’s clothing, to be given that evening and then taken to share with others or to use by those who are present who need them. It will be followed by a celebration of food and drink and a meal provided by the members of the Denhawken congregation.
