Floresville ISD discusses kitchen fix, energy savings
The kitchen of the Floresville South Elementary School will receive a new look in mid-2014, following the Floresville Independent School District board of trustees’ Nov. 19 vote to solicit requests for proposals.
Assistant Superin-tendent for Finance Mike McSwain said after the meeting, “The goal of this project is to update the cafeteria to a full-prep kitchen from its current design as a serve-only cafeteria.”
The requests for proposal will be released Jan. 6, with a due date of Jan. 30, McSwain said. Work is set to begin in June and be completed prior to the start of the new school year in August.
Also during the meeting, the board approved the purchase of four new school buses. McSwain said that due to the district’s growth and the aging of its fleet, the board voted to purchase two 77-passenger buses and two 53-passenger, wheelchair-accessible buses at a total cost of $382,832. The buses will be received during the first week of January, he said.
In other business, the board received a report on its ongoing energy-savings initiative. The full report is available on the district’s website, www.fisd.us. From November 2012 to August 2013, the district’s savings have included:
•$278,979 from avoiding the use of 2,714,677 kilowatt hours of electricity
•$26,281 by avoiding the use of 34,551 therms of natural gas
•$3,039 from avoiding the use of 596,000 gallons of water.
