Hospital board talks urgent care clinic, finances
Members of the Greater La Vernia Chamber of Commerce and citizens of La Vernia hear hospital updates from board members Nov. 21 during a regular board meeting held at the hospital’s La Vernia Urgent Care Clinic.
LA VERNIA -- Members of the Greater La Vernia Chamber of Commerce and citizens of La Vernia previewed the new urgent care clinic in La Vernia Nov. 21 during the Wilson County Memorial Hospital District board meeting.
Working to keep area communities involved and aware of the Connally Memorial Medical Center’s (CMMC) activities, the board held the first of several “rotating” meetings in La Vernia, said CMMC CEO Brian Burnside after the meeting. December’s board meeting will return to the hospital in Floresville; February’s meeting will be in either Poth or Stockdale, Burnside said.
During the Nov. 21 meeting, the CEO updated the board and citizens in attendance on the La Vernia urgent care clinic’s progress.
Burnside said La Vernia residents should expect to see the clinic opened between Dec. 9 and 30. He stated specialty services would be added once the clinic has opened.
Burnside also reported that the hospital added six new physicians to its staff.
The board also reviewed and approved the October financial and statistical report.
Interim Chief Financial Officer Jamie Jacoby presented the report to the board, highlighting the $100,426 profit, somewhat short of the projected $190,182 profit, he said.
The board also approved four large expenditures for equipment from the capital equipment budget. Purchases include surgical equipment for ear, nose, and throat surgeries, $113,307; surgical equipment for gastrointestinal procedures, $36,338; a surgical sterilizer, up to $160,000, to replace an existing large and small sterilizer; and ear, nose, and throat clinic equipment, $48,416.
Wilson Memorial Hospital District board of directors Nov. 21 meeting. In attendance: Board President Ronnie Eckel; members Tom Miller, Larry Richardson, Amy Clark, Sam Carter, and Tommy Soriero; Chief of Staff Emily Frye, interim Chief Financial Officer Jamie Jacoby, Administrative Assistant Shirley Bienek, Chief Executive Officer Brian Burnside.
