Q: What do you think about so much being discovered about your FBI profiler character Elizabeth’s background -- including things even she didn’t know -- as “The Blacklist” progresses?

A: We’re going to parcel out the answers, but with the answers come more questions. An analogy is giving someone a present, then they open it, and there’s another present inside. You have to keep them wondering what’s in the box, wanting to open the box, being satisfied with what they find ... and then continuing to rifle through.

Q: How do you assess the uneasy partnership of Elizabeth and Raymond “Red” Reddington (James Spader)?

A: You’re dealing with an extremely dangerous man and a young woman who doesn’t know herself and who has a lot of questions about her own identity. He knows the answers, and he also has an affinity for her. There are a lot of contentious things happening between these two people, but there is also a bond that is keeping them together.

Q: Elizabeth finds herself near explosions and flying bullets frequently. How have those elements of the show been for you?

A: I’ve seen so many cool stunts and amazing pyrotechnics, it really has been kind of surreal, especially my first couple of days of work. The moment when the first explosion went off on the bridge, I think that was the sign that I’d made it.
