Israel Roy Herrera Martinez Sr. passed away Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, in Floresville, Texas, at the age of 72 years and 21 days. He was born Nov. 8, 1941, in Floresville to Antonio and Herminia Herrera Martinez.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, John Martinez, Mike Martinez, and Juan Martinez; his sister, Gloria Cassiano; and his great-grandson, Daniel Roy Mojica Faustina.

Israel is survived by his wife, Bernice Pena Martinez of Floresville; his children, Israel Martinez Jr. of Dallas, Pete Martinez of San Antonio, Fabian Perez of San Antonio, Diana Pena Martinez of Arlington, Norma Brito of Arlington, Isabel Martinez of Floresville, Inez Guerrero of Floresville, and Yvonne Talamantez of Floresville; his sisters, Josephina Chapa of Floresville, Maria Mere of Floresville, and Adela Esquivel of Floresville; and his brothers, Joaquin Martinez of San Antonio and Carlos Martinez of San Antonio. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Juan, Jesse, and Jason Talamantez of Floresville, Christopher Barrera of San Antonio, Johnny Jimenez of San Antonio, Araceli, Marisa, Miguel, Jose, and Sophia Brito of Arlington, Gabriel Pena of Arlington, Hannah and Elizabeth Martinez of Dallas, Faustina, Isaiah, and Gabriel Pena Martinez of Floresville, Larry Guerrero Jr. of Floresville, and Robert Guerrero of Floresville; great-grandchildren Jasmin, Fabian, and Jayleigh Talamantez of Floresville; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Visitation was held Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 1 p.m. in the Franklin Funeral Home in Floresville.

A prayer service was held Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Israel Martinez Jr. and Pastor Guadalupe Mireles officiating.

Interment will follow in the Floresville City Cemetery in Floresville.

Serving as pallbearers will be Israel Martinez Jr., Carlos Martinez, Jose Martinez, John Daniel Estrada, Juan Talamantez, Larry Guerrero Jr., Faustina Salazar, and Miguel Martinez Brito.
