Feds extradite one of two suspects in 2008 murder
One of two suspects in a 2008 murder now is being held in the Wilson County Jail after his release from a federal prison.
James Jimenez, 46, of San Antonio recently was transported to the jail after finishing his sentence on an unrelated charge in a federal prison in Oklahoma, said Wilson County Sheriff Joe D. Tackitt Jr. Dec. 2. The Federal Bureau of Prisons website indicates that Jimenez was released from federal custody Nov. 22.
Jimenez’s alleged accomplice, 32-year-old Agapito Rios, also is to be transported to the jail within the month, Tackitt said. Federal records indicate that Rios is being held in a high-security facility in Kentucky, where he was set to be released Dec. 3.
Assistant District Attorney Audrey Louis of the 81st Judicial District said that jury selection in the trial of both men is set for March 24.
Jimenez and Rios were indicted by a Wilson County Grand Jury on July 2, 2012, each charged with murder in the shooting death of 35-year-old Ricardo Lopez de la Rosa Jr. of San Antonio. His body was found June 25, 2008, in a bar ditch off C.R. 115 near the Atascosa County line. Officials said de la Rosa died from a single gunshot wound to the head.
