Burglary suspects among those returning to court
The bench trial of two Pleasanton residents charged with their connection to a Jan. 15 burglary and subsequent police pursuit in Floresville has been rescheduled to Jan. 21, 2014. According to Wilson County District Court records, the trial initially was scheduled for Nov. 26.
Court records indicate that the trial of 30-year-old Dallas Warren Crisp and 20-year-old Roxie Jean Talerico did not occur, because the Bexar County Jail would not release the pair for transport to Wilson County.
Both defendants are charged with burglary of a habitation. Crisp also is charged with evading arrest or detention with a motor vehicle, following the chase with officers from the Floresville Police Department that ended with a rollover wreck near the intersection of Standish and 10th (U.S. 181) streets.
Also set to return to court Jan. 21 -- but for a pretrial hearing -- is former Wilson County Jail trusty Basilio Garcia, 29. He is charged with possession of a prohibited substance in a correctional facility and possession of methamphetamine. This, after a Texas Ranger investigation revealed that Garcia and a second trusty allegedly smuggled the illegal narcotic into Wilson County Jail.
Other defendants on the Nov. 26 docket included:
•Jacqueline Kowalik, 49, who was arraigned on a charge of misapplication of fiduciary property totaling more than $20,000 but less than $100,000. Her Sept. 27 indictment alleged this occurred when she failed to deposit checks and cash received at Dr. Edgan “Eddie” Elizondo’s dental office on U.S. 87 in La Vernia, from on or about Jan. 1 through June 30, 2008. Kowalik is set to return to court for a pretrial hearing Jan. 21, followed by a docket call March 12, with jury selection ahead of her trial set for March 24.
•Benjie Burke III, 25, of Gilmer, who is charged with intoxication manslaughter in the Jan. 21, 2012, death of his passenger, 30-year-old Justin Gregory Jones of Edmond, Okla., in a head-on crash on U.S. 181 north of Floresville. He will return to court for a pretrial hearing Feb. 25, followed by a docket call March 12, with jury selection ahead of his trial set for March 24.
•Carlton Carter Lam-beck, 35, who was in court for a pretrial hearing related to a charge of failure to stop and leave information, in connection with an April 24 crash on S.H. 123 near Stockdale. He is scheduled to return to court for a docket call March 12, with jury selection ahead of his trial set for March 24.
