This is the first in a series profiling area organizations that help meet needs in our communities.

Wilson County Foster Care Friendz helps provide items for children in foster care in Wilson County.

Operating under the direction of the county judge and commissioners court, the Friendz board receives partial funding through local jurors, who offer their jury duty stipend to help the foster children. The board also holds fund-raisers to assist with the Rainbow Room, a facility equipped with clothes, shoes, diapers, toiletries, and more to help equip children when they are removed from their homes. Each child receives a backpack with a three-day supply of clothing and personal-care items to get the foster family started when the children arrive.

The Friendz board also provides beds, bedding, car seats, and funds to help acquire birth certificates and other necessary documents, among other things needed by foster care families and staff for the children.

The Wilson County Foster Care Friendz is providing Christmas gifts to be distributed with stockings by local staff to the children in foster care. The Labatt Extension Education Association members undertook a special project, making Christmas stockings for the 99 children in foster care in Wilson County.

Find out more about the Wilson County Foster Care Friendz at their booth Saturday, Dec. 7, during Christmas Along the Corridor and Lighted Holiday Parade in downtown Floresville. Food purchases at their booth will help fund their good works. Donations are warmly welcomed!

This is a 501(c)3 organization, with 100 percent of the funds benefiting children in foster care.
