The Floresville Tiger basketball team faced the Kerrville Tivy Antlers at home on Wednesday during Thanksgiving break. Unfortunately, the Antlers left town with a 49-46 win in overtime.

The Tigers were plagued by turnovers and fouls in the first half of the game, but still managed to keep the game close. As the Tigers headed into the locker room at halftime, they were down 21-16.

During the third quarter, the Tigers shot 50 percent from the field and took the lead by the end of the quarter as Jared Kotzur converted on a 3-point play. Floresville took its largest lead in the fourth quarter and was up by 8 points, but allowed Tivy to get back into the game and take the lead with less than 15 seconds in the game.

The Tigers had possession as the clock wound down and Derek “Mooch” Moczygemba drove to the basket, making a layup to tie the game at 44-44, sending the game into overtime.

The Tigers had limited offense in the overtime period, making only two free throws, resulting in a Tivy win of 49-46. Still, it was an overall good effort by the Tigers.

Ricky Gonzales led the Floresville offense with 11 points and Estevan Mendiola pitched in another 10 points. Chris Albert worked hard on the boards grabbing 12 rebounds for the Tigers.

The Tigers were scheduled to face the Burbank Bulldogs in San Antonio on Dec. 2.
