1926-2013

Leon F. Drozd Sr. passed away peacefully and unexpectedly on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at the age of 87. He was born on July 8, 1926, in Da Costa, Texas, the eldest son of Albina and Frank Drozd.

He was a resident of Rockport where he resided on Key Allegro. He previously lived in Victoria and Sugar Land. Leon grew up on a farm in Da Costa where he developed a love for pets, which stayed with him throughout life. He graduated from Patti Welder High School and attended Victoria College. He was a building contractor for a number of years primarily in Victoria, Houston, and Rockport and later the owner of Live Oak Paint and Decorating Center in Rockport. Leon proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II and then later in Okinawa as part of the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign. He will be remembered for his compassion for and generosity to people in need, his pets, his talents as a homebuilder, which began during his 20’s, and his love of people and Rockport/Key Allegro. He attended Coastal Oaks Church in Rockport.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Shirley Ann Stanford; a grandchild, Heather Stice; and his second wife of 44 years, Leona H. Drozd.

Leon is survived by the children of his first marriage to Dorothy L. Smith of Austin, Leon F. Drozd Jr. of San Francisco, Calif., Frances M. Stastney of Manchaca, Texas, and Edward A. Drozd and Lucille Kirkby, both of Kyle; a brother, Allan J. Drozd of Floresville; a sister, Bernice H. Stephens of North Richland Hills; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Thursday, Dec. 5, from 5-8 p.m. in the Charlie Marshall Funeral Home and Crematory in Rockport.

Entombment with full military honors was held on Friday at 10 a.m. in the Seaside Memorial Park in Corpus Christi.

Memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society & Adoption Center of Rockport-Fulton, P.O. Box 1502, Fulton, TX 78358, or to a charity which helps people in need.
