Confederate vet enjoyed centennial celebration
Campbell Haddox celebrates his 100th birthday in a newspaper clipping from 1936.
Thelma Garnand of Floresville shared this newspaper clipping from decades ago with the Wilson County News, which describes how, on Feb. 1, 1936, Campbell Haddox, a Confederate veteran, celebrated his 100th birthday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W.A. Wright, near Floresville.
Haddox, born in Knoxville, Tenn., had by that time been a Texas resident for 82 of his 100 years. His wife, Betty, passed away in 1898. Five generations of his family helped Haddox celebrate his centennial, including two of his three children, 18 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Perhaps his descendants can shed light on this Confederate veteran’s final years.
