In an interview recently on Sirius XM NASCAR Radio, former NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team owner James Finch said that he would field an entry in the 2014 season-opening Daytona 500 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway in February. Finch is the former owner of the Phoenix Racing team now owned by Harry Scott Jr. Scott purchased the team from Finch during the 2013 race season. Finch’s plans to enter the Daytona 500 include a partnership with his old Phoenix Racing team.

“I don’t know if there’s any seller’s remorse, but I got to thinking, ‘You know, Daytona 500′s coming up. I’ve got to go down there one more time,’” Finch said in the radio interview. “So I made a deal with Harry, and I’m gonna get a car out, and I’m gonna go to the Daytona 500.”

Finch has two Nationwide Series wins as a car owner at Daytona, coming in 1999 with driver Rany Lajoie and in 2012 with Kurt Busch. His one Sprint Cup Series win also came on a restrictor plate track, with a win at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway with Brad Keselowski as his driver. In the most recent Daytona 500, a Finch-owned No. 51 driven by Regan Smith, finished seventh for Finch’s fourth Daytona 500 top-10.

A driver for the 2014 race has not yet been named. A full-time driver also has not been announced by Phoenix Racing for 2014.
