This series profiles area organizations that help meet needs in our communities.

Organization: Children’s Alliance of South Texas, a child advocacy center

What it does: Provides vital services to sexually and physically abused children and their families in Atascosa, Frio, Karnes, LaSalle, and Wilson counties. Services are provided in a safe, child-friendly environment where children can be interviewed by specially trained personnel. Victims also receive medical evaluations and mental health therapy. The center also provides community awareness and educational programs to decrease the frequency of such horrific crimes.

Background: Since Oct. 7, 2013, services have been provided locally to 27 child victims.

How you can help: The advocacy center anticipates moving into its renovated facility in Floresville by Jan. 1; donations are invited to help furnish the building. The center runs on grants and donations from caring community members and local government.

Tax-deductible donations can be sent to Children’s Alliance of South Texas, P.O. Box 747, Floresville, TX 78114.

The center also needs volunteers. For more information, call Mikey Betancourt at 830-581-9049.
