The South Central Texas Independent Cattlemen’s Association (SCTICA) directors will sponsor the group’s first meeting of 2014 Thursday, Jan. 9, at 6:30 p.m. at Lew’s Patio & Grill located at 101 Club Drive, north of Floresville off U.S. 181 Business, inside River Bend.

All interested area cattlemen and concerned rural-area dwellers are encouraged to attend. A complimentary dinner will be served. Non-members are welcome to attend.

Guest speaker for the evening will be Fred Morales, owner of Morales Feed & Supply, who will speak about K-Line Irrigation.

The night’s agenda includes the election of 2014 directors and officers, and a recap of 2013 activities and accomplishments.

Attendees will be given a chance to address which issues the directors should pursue in 2014, and be informed where the cattle industry may be headed.

Independent Cattlemen’s Association of Texas Executive Director W.V. “Bill” Hyman will update the cattlemen of the happenings in the last quarter of 2013 and what issues will be challenging cattlemen in the near future.

The cattlemen, who began this association in 1974, saw the need for a unified effort not only to promote but also to sustain the cattle industry. The majority of cattlemen are small ranchers, and small, rural towns need them to succeed. The economies of the towns are directly related to the farmers and ranchers in their area.
