Immanuel Lutheran Church is now hiring for a Youth and Family Ministry Director. Pastoral: Minister to youth and their families during Sunday School and other church programs, being present in their lives outside the church walls, available for common concerns and in crisis situations. Leadership: Recruit and nurture Youth and Family Ministry program. Administration : Manage the planning process and coordinate with Pastor and Youth Committee all regular ministries to youth and their families. This includes youth of all ages on Sunday mornings and mid-week events; assisting with Confirmation, special events, trips and retreats, and parent meetings. Stewardship: Ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of youth programs, manage youth ministry budget, and collaborate with the sponsors of each Youth group. Ability to build, lead, and empower youth. Ability to implement a ministry vision. Familiarity with Lutheran Doctrine required; must be comfortable teaching it and representing Lutheran Theology. Proficient computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database, email, internet, and social media. Supervisory experience preferred. Ability to adapt and evaluate curriculum preferred. Must have excellent organization, communication (verbal and written), and listening skills, with a high degree of initiative and accountability. Exceptional interpersonal and relational skills required, with sensitivity to church members and visitors. Understanding and enjoyment of youth and families and guiding their spiritual development. 1927-2013

John Mack Parker, a resident of McCoy, Texas, passed away Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, in his residence in McCoy at the age of 86 years, 10 months, and 5 days. John was born Feb. 15, 1927, in Laurel, Miss., the son of John Mack and Viola Erkhart Parker.

John grew up in Mississippi, but spent most of his life living in various parts of Texas, while serving his country in the U.S. Army Air Force. John married Eulalia Talley in April 1978, who preceded him in death. John loved music his whole life, and often entertained his family with his guitar playing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Eulalia Talley Parker; three children; one stepson; one brother; and one sister.

John is survived by his children, Donna Jean Raines of Butler, Pa., Alice Louise Buford and husband Mike of Gulfport, Miss., Jana Wagner and husband Doug of Kerrville, Evelyn Hill and husband Ronnie of McCoy, Susan Messick of New Braunfels, and Jerry Jones and fiancée Deborah of Rocksprings; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sisters, Rosemary Bohn and husband Bill of Gulfport, Miss., and Ida Schuch of Kenosha, Wis.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Friday, Dec. 27, at noon in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Poth.

A funeral service with military honors was held on Friday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, officiated by Pastor Kelly Tankersley.
