1922-2013

Ivan W. Richardson, 91, of La Vernia, Texas, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013. He was born on July 2, 1922, in San Antonio to Martin Schaefer and Irene Waddell.

Ivan honorably served in the U.S. Army and was a paratrooper during World War II. He worked for 13 years at Randolph Air Force Base and Brooks Aerospace Medicine as a photographic technician. After his time in civil service he went on to work for Fox Photo Co., at WOAI for five years as a film processor and news filmer, and for the Victoria Advocate as a color lab technician. After he retired, he moved to Granbury, where he owned and operated Speed Copy Printing. Ivan and his wife, Mary, moved to La Vernia to be near family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Richardson; mother Irene Waddell; brothers William C. Richardson, and Clifford and Norman, who died in infancy.

Ivan is survived by his daughter, Bonnie Knitig; grandsons Douglas Garrard, Richard Garrard, and Todd Garrard and wife Terri; great-grandchildren Hatti Weatherford and husband Mike, Courtney Garrard, Lucas Garrard, and Christopher McAllister; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at 2 p.m. in the San Jose Burial Park in San Antonio.
