Carreen Markgraf Welch, 73, of La Vernia, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2013. She was born on April 16, 1940, in Seguin, the daughter of Hugo Willie and Edna (Mattke) Markgraf.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. Carreen grew up in La Vernia and graduated from La Vernia High School in 1958 and then attended Draughns Business College in San Antonio. She worked at Kelly Air Force Base as a budget analyst for 35 years. Carreen spent many happy years with her companion, Tommy Anderson, and enjoyed gardening, country western dancing, shopping, and playing with her dogs.

Carreen was preceded in death by her parents; and companion Tommy Anderson.

She is survived by her twin sister, Carolyn Markgraf West; nephew Charles West; and many loving friends.

Visitation was held on Friday, Dec. 27, from 5-7 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in La Vernia.

A funeral service was held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the funeral chapel, officiated by the Rev. Robert Palan.

Interment followed in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in La Vernia.
