FLORESVILLE -- The Floresville Tiger varsity basketball team kicked off its district season at home against the McCollum Cowboys Dec. 20.

The Cowboys took advantage of some early Floresville turnovers and started with a 7-0 lead, but the Tigers came to life with the team’s first score of the game. It started with a Tiger steal and assist by Mason Ray, and ended with a Chris Albert slam-dunk. The Tigers put pressure on the Cowboys from there, forcing several turnovers, and Floresville finished the half with a 39-16 lead over the Cowboys. In the second half, the Tigers continued with their pressure defense and never let McCollum back into the game. Floresville won 68-32.

Jared Kotzur ran the offense well, leading the Tigers with five assists. Floresville finished with three players in double digits. Estevan Mendiola led the team with 12 points, Ray had 11 points, and Albert finished with 10 points. Vernon Marsh and Albert worked hard on the boards, pulling down seven and nine rebounds, respectively.
