EAST CENTRAL -- Deputies from the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office are investigating two unrelated accidents Jan. 7 in East Bexar County.

According to sheriff’s office spokesman Rosanne Hughes, a sport-utility vehicle (SUV) driven by a couple taking their granddaughter to school struck a sanitation worker at approximately 7:45 a.m. The unidentified worker, who had collecting garbage with his son on New Sulphur Springs Road near Foster Road, died at the scene. The driver of the SUV has not been charged.

KENS 5 TV reported that the father and son worked for Tiger Sanitation.

Also Jan. 7, an East Central Independent School District (ISD) bus was involved in a wreck on Jim Daniel Drive, said East Central ISD spokesman Stevie Gonzales. A driver swerved in an attempt to avoid the bus. The four students riding on the bus were transferred to another bus, which continued the route. No one in the bus was injured and there is no word on the condition of the driver of the other vehicle.
