Editor:

Re: “From one year to the next: A message to voters in 2014,” Jan. 1

A good deal of the time, I find your editorials interesting -- not always in a positive way. This one I found interesting -- both in a positive way as well as a negative way.

I agree that we should remain involved and not just sit on the sidelines -- particularly when it comes to voting. As you say, we should become acquainted with all available information on the pertinent issues and vote responsibly. The several quotes used provided a nice touch. I was especially touched by your quote from the Statue of Liberty. We should always be mindful of its message -- reaching out to those less fortunate.

However, I found your rationale on President Obama’s election careless and offensive.

As you say, he was duly elected by a majority of the American people -- twice. So how valid can your mentioned polls (re: “a majority of Americans being dissatisfied”) be? Even if true, dissatisfaction does not equate to not supporting. I too have been at times dissatisfied with his handling of programs -- but not in the programs themselves. And remember, he won the first election relatively easily.

Before you go on to say he “fooled” all these people -- remember he also won the second one handily. And by then, essentially, all his significant programs (including Affordable Care) were already on the books, so to speak. Yet, and this is what I find offensive, you rationalize that “he was elected by those who voted in ignorance believing his promise of hope, by those expecting something for themselves, and by those who chose not to vote because they did not like any of the candidates (my emphasis).

Wow. What a condemnation of the American voters! In all honesty, how do we encourage voters who we hold in such low esteem?

New Guy....Democrat Senators need to be on the job because their leader may call for them to vote for a nation damaging law before he or they have even read it. Barack, Harry, and Nancy,,,,three blind mice.
