1921-2013

Elisabeth Emma Schirmer Doege, a longtime resident of Floresville, Texas, entered eternal rest Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at 9:12 p.m. in the Connally Memorial Medical Center in Floresville, at the age of 92 years and 4 months. Elisabeth was born Aug. 28, 1921, in Bexar County, the daughter of Richard and Otillie Wolff Schirmer.

After her schooling, Elisabeth was a homemaker and a farmer, and also worked other jobs with Libby’s, White’s Auto Store, and Woolworth. After losing her husband, Harry Krueger Sr., in the war, Elisabeth married Felix Doege on Aug. 16, 1949, in La Vernia. Felix, Elisabeth’s beloved husband of 52 years, preceded her in death on Dec. 24, 2001. Elisabeth enjoyed gardening and gambling, and especially loved her houseplants. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Poth.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Harry Krueger Sr.; her second husband, Felix Doege; her grandson, Westley Janek; her sisters, Eleanor Schirmer, Mata Schirmer, Edna Schirmer, and Martha Jacobs; and her brothers, Richard Schirmer and Edmond Schirmer.

Elisabeth is survived by her children, Eileen Kretzschmar of San Antonio, Harry Krueger and wife Lynda of the Stockdale area, Vivian Janek and husband Richard of Floresville, and Felix “Bobby” Doege Jr. and wife Kim of the Floresville area; her grandchildren, Karyn (Henry), Keith (Bernice), Kevin (Jennifer), Ricky (Kerry), Kelly (Wade), Stephanie (Mike), Jason, Clayton (Ashley), and Sydney (Samuel); great-grandchildren Kory, Matthew, Autumn, Timmy, Kenny, Jackson, Maddie, Jade, Lily, Rayn, Gracee, Bo Bo, Lexi, Kolton, and Abrielle; and sisters Helene Englehardt and Paulina Pundt.

Visitation was held on Monday, Dec. 30, at 5:30 p.m., followed by the recitation of the rosary at 7:30 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Poth, officiated by the Rev. Grzegorz Szewczyk.

Interment followed in the Blessed Sacrament Cemetery in Poth.

Serving as pallbearers were Elisabeth’s grandsons, Keith, Kevin, Ricky, Jason, and Clayton, and her great-grandson, Kory.
