1954-2013

The heart and strength of his family -- loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend -- Jeffery Neal Thompson went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, at the age of 59. He was born on Oct. 23, 1954, in Castroville, Texas, to G.B. “Bud” and Clara (Hammer) Thompson.

Jeff was full of life and loved his wife and daughters beyond words. He had a love for music and shared this from a young age. He had a country western band that had South Texas two-stepping for more than 30 years. Jeff was an avid sports fan and would not miss rooting for his favorite teams -- Texas Longhorns, Dallas Cowboys, San Antonio Spurs, and the Texas Rangers. He was a member of St. Ann’s La Vernia Knights of Columbus council and took pride in helping others. Jeff had a generous heart and his everlasting love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Roy R. Thompson; and niece Elaine Thompson.

Jeff is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Robin (Blow) Thompson; daughters Amy Real and husband Brandon and Sarah Perales and husband Eloy Perales III; sisters Trudy Smith and husband Sam and Jan Kayser and husband Ron; sister-in-law Marilyn Thompson; numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews; and friends.

A celebration of his life and all of the good things he taught his family was held on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, with visitation from 5-8 p.m. and a rosary at 7 p.m. in the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in St. Hedwig.

A funeral Mass was held on Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the church, officiated by the Rev. Peter McKenna.

Interment followed in the St. Jerome Catholic Cemetery in San Antonio.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Knights of Columbus St. Ann’s La Vernia Council No. 12208, 14151 U.S. 87, La Vernia, TX 78121; or American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718, or www.cancer.org.
