Hanson, Dickey receive CERT awards
Mike Hanson and Frank Dickey, two Wilson County second responders, are recipients of awards from the Alamo Area Regional Citizen Corps.
The two received their awards Dec. 7 during a ceremony in the New Braunfels Civic Center. Recipients were selected from nominations submitted by the 12-county Alamo Area Council of Governments Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT).
Hanson received the CERT Member of the Year award, cited for his role as the La Vernia CERT team leader, participation in local and regional training, and his efforts in the development and training for an Incident Rehabilitation unit operated by the La Vernia Volunteer Fire Department.
Dickey was recognized as the CERT Instructor of the Year for his planning and training efforts in regional CERT courses, drills, and exercises.
A third Wilson County second responder, Beth Thiele, was nominated for CERT New Instructor of the Year. Her nomination outlined her unique training methods, instruction of the first Wilson County Teen CERT course, and participation in regional training and team exercises conducted throughout the year.
Wilson County second responders are trained, pre-identified volunteers who promote individual, family, and community disaster preparedness and response under the direction of the Wilson County Office of Emergency Management.
