Hold on to your hats, shine those dancing shoes, and get ready to dance at the first Floresville Opry of 2014, scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 6, in the Floresville Event Center.

Opry headliner, Billy Mata and “The Texas Tradition,” will perform their best traditional country honky tonk and Western Swing.

Mata began his recording career in the ’70s singing Billboard charted, Top 40 country music. However, in the ’90s, he declared his intention to stick with “real country music.” He is a two-time Academy of Western Artists Western Swing Vocalist of the Year and winner of the Academy’s Entertainer of the Year award. His albums include “Keepin’ The Tradition: A Tribute To My Heroes,” “Traditionally Yours,” “Domino Effect,” and most recently, “By Request.”

Mata is celebrating more than a quarter of a century making music with his band, “The Texas Tradition,” which consists of Richard Helsley on fiddle and harmony, Robert Sabo on fiddle, Roger Edgington playing steel guitar, David Waters on electric guitar, Ric Ramirez playing upright bass, and Rocco Fortunato on drums and harmony.

So, don’t forget to save the date and relish the sounds of great country music on Thursday, Feb. 6, at the Floresville Opry.
