Just after 5 p.m., Paul Berry, spokesman for the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, issued the following statement related to this morning's multiple crashes on I-37:

"In the morning hours around 7:00 a.m., conditions along IH-37 in the south part of the county, were very dangerous due to heavy fog, visibility in the area was approximately 100 feet. Shortly after this time, our deputies were dispatch to a one-car vehicle accident. On their way to this accident they began to notice multiple, unrelated accidents."

"Between 7:15 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. there were multiple accident scenes on both the north and southbound lanes of IH-37 between Hardy Road and Loop 410. In total, there were thirteen separate accident sites involving 42 vehicles were reported. IH-37 was shut down -- in both directions until just prior to noon, when the Northbound lane was reopened. The Southbound lane was reopened shortly after 1 p.m. Fourteen people were transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries."
