Vaughn Ray Gilley was born Sept. 17, 1936, in Floresville, Texas. He passed away in San Antonio on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, at the age of 77.

Vaughn worked for Farmers Insurance Co. for more than 30 years. After he retired in 2002, he went to live in Ingram on the family property, where he dearly loved watching and feeding the deer, building fences, riding on his tractor, and mowing grass.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thurman A. Gilley of Floresville; and brothers John and Steve Gilley.

Vaughn is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Gilley, age 101, of Round Rock; his wife of 46 years, Madelyn Gilley; son Glen Garven Gilley of Austin; stepdaughter Bobbie Geffert and husband Tim of Corpus Christi; stepgranddaughter Nicole Geffert of Smithville; sisters Jessie Rackley and husband Carl Rackley Jr. of Georgetown and Earlene Blackstock of Tomball; brother-in-law Billy Dowdy and wife Shirley of Mountain Home; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 12:30 p.m. in the Sun City Social Center in Georgetown.
