1932-2014

Paul Melvin Wiseman, 81, of La Vernia, Texas, died on Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, in his home in La Vernia. He was born July 1, 1932, in Sigourney, Iowa, the son of Carl Paul and Rose Mae (Harmon) Wiseman.

On Aug. 3, 1959, he married Yun Cha (Kim) Wiseman in Seoul, Korea. Three children blessed this union, Paul, Paula, and Daryl. Paul was a retired U.S. Army soldier and his assignments included Fort Chaffee, Ark., Fort Polk, La., Fort Riley, Kan., Fort Sill, Okla., Yuma Proving Ground, Ariz., and Yongsan, Korea. He was multi-talented, holding several different military occupational series designations. In civilian life, welder/blacksmith became his chosen vocation. The qualities garnered during his military service -- patriotism, selfless service, empathy, and compassion -- continued on in civilian life. In his pastime, he enjoyed gardening and would freely share the fruits of his labor with relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Earl; and sister Jean.

Paul is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Yun Cha Wiseman; three children, Paul Wiseman and wife Marlene of Land O’Lakes, Fla., Paula Passione and husband Anthony of La Vernia, and Daryl Wiseman of Seguin; two brothers, Dean and Gary, both of San Antonio; four grandsons, Aaron, Kyle, Joshua, and Cody; and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service with military honors was held on Monday, Jan. 13, at 9:30 a.m. in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.

Memorial contributions may be made to Special Operations Warrior Foundation, P.O. Box 89367, Tampa, FL 33689; or to Hope Hospice, 611 N. Walnut, New Braunfels, TX 78130.
