LVMDD accepting facade grant applications
The La Vernia Municipal Development District is taking applications for its 2014 Façade Improvement Grant Program as part of a comprehensive development plan to revitalize the city’s Central Business District.
The process begins with a building owner submitting drawings to the district office that illustrate the planned façade improvements along with cost estimates, color choices, and a timeline for completion. Then, the municipal development district executive director, along with the building owner, makes a presentation to the district board. Once the project is complete, the district executive director will certify proof of the expenditures, the date of completion, and recommend payment before funds are disbursed.
The Municipal Development District utilizes a portion of the economic development sales tax to restore the fronts of existing buildings. The district will approve a maximum of $5,000 or 50 percent of the actual cost of the improvements, whichever is less.
“In order to help businesses paint and repair their facilities, we have created a public incentive that promotes private investment with the outcome of a more vibrant and charming community. Funds can be used to repair and paint, add windows, replace doors, improve fencing, pave or repair parking areas, and build dumpster enclosures,” said Municipal Development District Executive Director Jennifer Kolbe.
