Stockdale enters into agreement with Wilson County library
The Sam Fore Jr. Wilson County Public Library is one step closer in its pursuit of reaching out to other parts of Wilson County, after the Stockdale City Council approved an interlocal agreement with Stockdale’s library.
The Sarah Bain Chandler Memorial Library, located on West Main Street in Stockdale, is part of the Wilson County library board’s long-range plan.
The Stockdale City Council approved the agreement Jan. 7, after a presentation by Wilson County Public Library Director Nicki Stohr.
Under the agreement, Wilson County will place a master-degreed librarian in the Stockdale library, which is the first step toward state accreditation for the library. Stohr said the county will pay the librarian’s salary, as well as the advertisement for the position.
As reported in the Dec. 11 article, “Library extends reach, promotes eReader services,” adding Stockdale to the Wilson County Library’s service area would assist the county library’s requirement by the state that the ratio of one item for circulation per person within the county is met.
Stohr emphasized that the county is not taking over the Bain Chandler library, and the interlocal agreement can be canceled at any time.
Also during the meeting, the council addressed problems with the ever-increasing traffic within the city. See related article, above.
