Five La Vernia High School students’ artworks were chosen from among 500 entries in the San Antonio Student Western Art Contest for the Top 25, which will be auctioned off for scholarships on Friday, Jan. 30, from 6-9 p.m. in the Briscoe Western Art Museum in downtown San Antonio. They include seniors Reagan Roswell, Shaley Trammell, and Hallie Pace, junior Olivia Hinojosa, and freshman Bria Peters. Entries judged as the Top 25 are auctioned to the highest bidder, with each student receiving a scholarship in the amount of the winning bid (certain restrictions apply).

Following the auction, the artwork will be moved to the grounds of the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo to be displayed in the Expo Hall during the annual San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, Thursday, Feb. 6, through Sunday, Feb. 23. The prominence of this event will elevate the Student Western Art Contest to a new level, and the students’ exposure to the art community will be invaluable to young artists.

Two other La Vernia students, Kailee Wegehaupt and Rachel Henkes, will have their artwork displayed in the Briscoe Western Art Museum throughout the month of January before it moves to the rodeo grounds in February.
