Phoenix Racing has confirmed that Justin Allgaier will be the driver of the No. 51 Chevrolet in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series competition for the upcoming 2014 season.

“This is an opportunity of a lifetime, and I intend to make the most of it,” Allgaier said, according to a story on National Speed Sport News’ website. “I am very grateful to (team owner) Harry Scott and (sponsor) BRANDT for having faith in me to compete against the best drivers in the world.”

Allgaier will drive the No. 51 car. A second No. 52 entry will be added for veteran driver Bobby Labonte for several races, including the season-opening Daytona 500 on Feb. 23.

“Justin has worked extremely hard to get to this level, and he is ready to take the next step,” Phoenix Racing owner Harry Scott Jr. said. “Working in conjunction with competition director and crew chief Steve Addington, I think the No. 51 team can turn some heads this year.”

After a two-year stint with Penske Racing in 2010 and 2011 that saw him claim his first Nationwide Series win, Allgaier moved to Turner Scott Motorsports, co-owned by Scott in 2012 and competed at the Nationwide level full-time for TSM in 2012 and 2013. Over the course of his Nationwide Series career, Allgaier has three wins and 84 top-10 finishes. He also ran four Sprint Cup Series races for Phoenix Racing at the end of 2013.
