Helen Marie Werley passed away Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at the age of 87 years, 6 months, and 16 days, in New Braunfels, Texas. She was born in Paris, Texas, on June 15, 1926, to Curtis Edwin Widener and Eva Maynard. Helen Marie was a member of the Union Valley Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Cecil Ray Werley.

Helen Marie is survived by her children, Dennis Werley and wife Patti of Stockdale, Carolyn Faith Merz and husband, Pastor Ray Merz of New Braunfels, and David Eugene Werley and wife Nikki of Kyle; grandchildren Lauren Lankford, Amber L. Orand and husband Nicholas, Erin D. Werley, Ryan Ray Merz and wife Margaret, Jason Ray Merz and wife Lindsey, Jeremy Ray Merz, Ryan Wayne Werley, Sarah M. Cabrera and husband Jeremy, Ryan Adair, and Holly Adair; 15 great-grandchildren; brother Edwin Widener and wife Jennifer of Louisana; sister-in-law Juanita Elam of Indiana; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members.

Visitation was held Thursday, Jan. 16, from noon to 2 p.m. in the Union Valley Baptist Church near Nixon.

A funeral service was held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the church, with Pastor Ray Merz and the Rev. Don Hessong officiating.

Interment followed in the Union Valley Cemetery near Nixon.

Memorial donations may be made to the Union Valley Baptist Church, 8221 F.M. 1681, Nixon, TX 78140.
